Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Malmo wonderkid Lucas Gomes, according to the Swedish club’s director Mikael Brandrup.
The 14-year-old Swede was invited for a trial at Carrington in October and looks set to make the move a permanent one after impressing United’s staffs. He is currently with Swedish side Malmo, where Zlatan Ibrahimovic began his career.
The Swedish outfit are understandably desperate to keep hold of their prized asset. But the deal for the 14-year-old starlet appears to be on the verge of completion, according to Malmo’s director Mikael Brandrup.
“Lucas was in Manchester for week 44 and unfortunately I do not think we’ll keep him,” Brandrup told Skanesport.
“He moved here from Karlskrona in the autumn of 2016 to go to our sports school and, of course, he might have to wait until he left the school before moving back.
“But I understand he’s impressed with United,” the club director added.
Gomes joined Malmo last summer from FK Karlskrona, and ahead of his trial match in England, told Ungdomsfotboll (h/t Manchester Evening News) that he was really looking forward to testing himself with the English giants.
“It will be a lot of fun and I will trial as well as play with them. I think there will be a higher pace there but I hope and I think I will handle it. I’m looking really forward to this adventure.” Gomes was quoted.
It has been United’s tradition since ages to nurture homegrown products and bolster the academy by signing some of the sublime youngsters in the game.
Last week ahead of the Arsenal clash, we completed the signing of French teenager Aliou Traore from Paris Saint-Germain academy. Traore is a France Under-17 international and accompanied the squad in the pre-season training camp in Austria.
United are set to embark on a busy January transfer window as Mourinho prepares to bolster his squad by signing a couple of players. Our gaffer will reportedly be handed a £80m transfer war-chest in January. The United boss met with the club chiefs last week to devise a plan for the upcoming winter transfer window.
It looks like we might spend on at least one player in the January transfer window. Jose Mourinho might most probably look to sign a top-class No.10. Interesting winter window ahead.
