Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is the talk of the town. I am not talking about his heroics against Arsenal. It is about his continuous links with Real Madrid.
It is an open secret in Madrid and Manchester that the Los Blancos want to make De Gea their No.1. That story has played for many transfer windows and even came close to being true in 2015.
Somehow the deal did not happen it was well established from that time that De Gea would eventually move to Real Madrid. Interestingly, in every transfer window, we kept hearing news from United management that we would not sell De Gea to Madrid.
Till now, we’ve held forte, but it is widely reported now that the Spaniard has his heart set out on a move to Real Madrid, although his current deal runs until 2019. Spanish media outlet Dario Gol indicates that De Gea has listed his demands to the Spanish champions.
Demands? What Are They?
De Gea is reportedly demanding a heavy pay rise to take him on par with some of the biggest earners at the club. Currently, it is superstar Cristiano Ronaldo who pockets the most at the Santiago Bernabeu. De Gea also wants Keylor Navas to vacate.
If De Gea’s demands are met, he would join the next highest set of earners at the club. The likes of Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale are earning to the tune of £200,000-a-week and De Gea wants the wages to be on par with that group.
So, is this transfer saga any closer to reaching a deal? Mind you, there is enough bad blood between the two sides after that failed transfer in 2015, that even a straightforward transfer discussion would take a long time!
Having said that, I don’t think De Gea would choose to join Real Madrid. He’s truly ours and let’s just sit back and watch the Spaniard weave his magic, week in week out.
What do you think about De Gea’s potential move to Real Madrid?
