Manchester United will hand manager Jose Mourinho a £80m transfer war chest in January. The Red Devils have had a fine start to the season but are still trailing cross-town rivals Manchester City by 8 points in the Premier League. And to fight toe-to-toe with City, Mourinho’s wish of spending heavily in January looks set to come to fruition.

According to The Sun, the United manager met with the club chiefs last week to chalk out their plans for next month’s transfer window.

It is understood that the Premier League giants are desperate to bolster their squad by bringing in a left-back, a right-winger and a creative No.10. With this news, it looks like Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian might get the axe in January to create space and funds for fresh faces.

According to a source of The Sun,

“Jose met with some of the clubs top brass including Woodward last week and could have a pretty penny to spend. It sounds like some of the summer budget is being advanced into January. Jose is also looking to get rid of some players.”

“Shaw and Darmian are in the firing line. There are a few key positions he wants to fill throughout the squad,” the source added.

Shaw, 22, suffered ligament damage to his left-foot in May and missed the rest of the previous season. Regardless of attaining full fitness in October, the defender’s only appearance has come in the EFL Cup, in a 4-1 win against Burton Albion in September.

Meanwhile, Darmian has only made two Premier League starts for United this term and is a name that is set to be sold, with Mourinho not convinced with the full-back.

Spurs’ Danny Rose remains our priority target at left-back. The United boss is increasingly confident of landing the England defender either next month or during the summer transfer window.

German playmaker Mesut Ozil, who is out of contract at Arsenal next summer is firmly on Mourinho’s radar as well. The United boss is very much interested in bringing the German World Cup winner to Old Trafford ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

United are back in action tonight as we host CSKA Moscow in the final Champions League group stage clash of the season, before playing Manchester City on Sunday.
