Manchester United have reportedly have joined the race to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka. The German youngster, who is out of contract at the end of this season, is being tracked by Barcelona, Liverpool, and Arsenal. Reports from Sky Sports indicate that United have joined the list.
It is common knowledge that United manager Jose Mourinho is searching a long-term replacement for club captain Michael Carrick. This is where I think the 22-year-old fits us perfectly. The tall midfielder can play either as a deep-lying midfielder or as a box-to-box midfielder. He has already scored 6 goals in 12 international matches for Germany. Considering his recent surge, the youngster is considered an outside bet to make it to the World Cup.
Whether or not he’d do it is not certain but the youngster is sure to make a move away from Schalke next summer. United would do well if they beat the competition for his signature.
In a world of astronomical and hyped up transfer fees for players of less-proven capabilities than him, Goretzka is an exception ready to be lapped up by competition.
This is why I am excited and this is why all the United fans are excited. The latest reports linking the midfielder to the club have brought a great sense of enthusiasm among the fans. We picked up some of the reactions for you.
If we got Leon goretzka and Ozil on a free that would be top business could spend big on a winger and a left back then

Bayern, Juve, now Utd after Goretzka. Gonna be a major coup If we manage to sign him on a free over those clubs.

It would be very Mourinho-esque to have stolen a march on his competitors, and sign the likes of Mesut Özil and Leon Goretzka before anyone really knew what was going on. Just sayin’ ..

A midfield trio of Matic, Goretzka and Pogba would be so good.
