Jose Mourinho Has Already Started To Track Argentine Left-back To Replace Shaw – Report

Enzo Diaz

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho made the best possible use of the international break by scouting his next recruits. One of the latest names linked with a move to the Old Trafford is rising Argentina star, Enzo Diaz.

The youngster has already been linked with the club after having indicated of his desire to play for the Red Devils. According to reports in the Daily Mail, the Old Trafford side have already checked on the 21-year-old left-back.

Diaz who plays for Argentina second division leaders Agropecuario has caught the attention of United as the club looks to find some new names for a position that has been one of Mourinho’s problem areas this season.

The Portuguese tactician has seen his left-back position be shared by the likes of Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, and Daley Blind. Although United have a regular left-back in the form of Luke Shaw, the England international is far from earning the trust of his manager and remains on the fringes.

That is where the interest in Diaz comes into the picture. The youngster has made just 7 league appearances and has cornered widespread attraction from abroad. The defender who can also play in the middle of a back four has said that it would be a dream come true to play for the Old Trafford side.

Speaking to the Argentine media outlet Ataque Futbolero, Diaz indicated (h/t Daily Mail):

“I found out about it on Saturday morning, but later I did not talk to anyone other than my agent.

“My agent told me that they were delighted and they were going to see me a couple more games. It is the dream of any footballer [to play for Manchester United].”

United’s hunt for a regular left-back has taken Mourinho to places although in the recent matches it is Young who has consistently played in that role. Shaw is close to attaining full match fitness but if reports are to be believed, the England youngster is still a long way away from getting a nod from Mourinho.

The Portuguese was even reported to be flirting with an idea of signing Danny Rose from Tottenham Hotspur, even if it meant swapping Shaw would help that deal. However, he faces competition for Rose’s signature.

Does that make Diaz, the next one in queue at Old Trafford? It may well be because Shaw is being courted by Turkish side Fenerbahce for a probable move in January.
