Manchester United Handed Massive Boost In £134m Midfielder Chase As Player’s Camp Gives A Nod

Manchester United are reportedly interested in luring Saul Niguez to Old Trafford and have been given a cursory positive nod by the player’s camp. The Spanish midfielder is reported to have a mammoth buyout clause, as reported by The Sun, but the Red Devils are encouraged by the player’s interest.

The Spanish star has forged a reputation as one of the most promising talents in Europe after coming through the ranks at Atletico. The 22-year-old has been one of the standout performers in Diego Simeone’s squad and has attracted attention from teams across Europe.

United have been interested in Saul for a long time and were reportedly tracking him from his time at Rayo Vallecano in 2013-14 when he was there on loan from Atletico. There were unverified reports of an inquiry to the Rojiblancos who immediately brought Saul back into their fold and integrated him into the first-team.

That hasn’t stopped United from tracking the youngster and manager Jose Mourinho feels that he would be a great addition to his squad. United’s lack of depth in the central midfield has been exposed this season after Paul Pogba’s injury-enforced absence.

With Michael Carrick too out of action, because of a mystery virus, Mourinho is stretched for options in the middle of the park. The Portuguese gaffer feels that Saul is a perfect option for his side to have, as a long-term replacement for Carrick.

The report in The Sun claims that the player has a buyout clause of £134m, which was written into Saul’s deal that was signed this summer. Unless we get a cut-price deal done with Atletico, we will have to cough up that amount. The report claims that Saul is open to a transfer provided United can come to an agreement with Atletico. With the player okay for a move, the Red Devils could be encouraged to get into discussions with the club.

I feel that the release clause is a bit huge despite considering the player’s potential. If we can convince Atletico to settle for a lesser amount, then the deal would make sense as Saul is a gifted player.
