Predicted Manchester United Line-up To Face Chelsea In The Premier League

Chelsea will host former manager Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United squad on Sunday, with the Red Devils eager to prove a point. Although the Blues stormed to the 2016-17 title, they currently sit 4 points behind us in the points table after what has been a rough start.

Although United did well against Benfica, Mourinho will be under immense pressure to prove that he can and will attack the title rivals away from home. What makes the match all the more exciting is the Portuguese manager’s love-hate relationship with Chelsea. With both teams desperate to secure three points, this should be quite an encounter.

Team News

Mourinho does not have any fresh injury concerns but he will still have to do without the services of Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini. The young and energetic Scott McTominay could be in contention for a start after his influential performance in the Champions League win over Benfica.

Anthony Martial will also be in line for a starting role after being a key player during the win over Tottenham last weekend.

Probable Manchester United XI

Manager: Jose Mourinho

Formation: 4-3-3

David De Gea (GK)

The prolific goalkeeper will continue in his usual role at Stamford Bridge. He maintained a clean sheet against Tottenham and will be looking to continue that streak on Sunday as well.

David De Gea (right)

Antonio Valencia (RB)

Valencia has truly made the right-back position his own, and he is likely to be handed a start against an out-of-form Chelsea side.

Phil Jones (CB)

Easily our strongest defender right now, Jones is expected to start at the heart of the United defence and his experience and contribution at the back will be key.

Eric Bailly (CB)

Bailly and Jones were quite influential in previous games, and they will be intent on re-establishing that link. Their understanding will be important if we are to keep Chelsea at bay.

Ashley Young (LB)

Young continues to thrive as a left-back and we need him to be in top-notch form on Sunday because it certainly won’t be easy to restrict Chelsea at their home.

Nemanja Matic (centre)

Nemanja Matic (DM)

Matic will be in focus as he returns to his former club. However, that shouldn’t deter his focus and his dominion over the midfield will be key.

Ander Herrera (CM)

Herrera has not been at his best so far and the player can do a lot better. Perhaps against Chelsea, he could muster some of his old energy if he gets selected.

Scott McTominay (CAM)

This could be a bit of a gamble but the youngster could be handed a start after his influence against Benfica in the Champions League.

Romelu Lukaku

Anthony Martial (LW)

Martial has scored 4 goals for us already and it would be great if he could get his name on the scoresheet once more. Nonetheless, he has been making crucial contributions, which will be important against Chelsea.

Jesse Lingard (RW)

At right-wing, Lingard is expected to be handed a start. His season has been filled with ups and downs but he does come through in the big games and this is a colossal one.

Romelu Lukaku (CF)

Lukaku chose to join us over Chelsea in the summer, which should make for an interesting situation when he visits Stamford Bridge. However, he has failed to maintain his strong start to the new season but he would be keen on setting things right on Sunday.
