Jose Mourinho has said that he is concerned over Marouane Fellaini’s contract situation given the fact that he has already entered the final year of his agreement and no talks about any possible extension have been initiated till date.
Fellaini has established himself as a key man in Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United plans and the fact that he has already scored 3 goals in 6 Premier League appearances is the perfect testament to it. Furthermore, with Paul Pogba out injured as well, Mourinho kept his faith in the Belgian and the midfielder didn’t disappoint before eventually getting injured while on international duty.
Many expected the 29-year-old to depart as soon as Mourinho arrived, but the Portuguese decided to mould the Belgian and has now made him one of the key members of the squad. Making 28 Premier League appearances last season, Fellaini played full 90 minutes in United’s Europa League final win over Ajax last season. By the summer transfer window, a host of clubs were credited with an interest in the Belgian and Galatasaray of all, publicly expressed that they were in talks with the player over a potential move.
“Fellaini will leave Manchester United and he is now in our radar,” Galatasaray director Cenk Ergun was quoted as saying by Ajansspor. “There will be surprises, we are in talks with Fellaini. We need a player like Fellaini who can move around in midfield.”
Mourinho, however, dismissed the claims by saying,
“It’s easier for Galatasaray to get me than Marouane.”
Such is the importance of the player. But now that his contract expires at the end of the season, Fellaini will soon be eligible to listen to offers from other clubs and Mourinho has said that he is worried about it. Furthermore, Luke Shaw is under similar circumstances too, but Mourinho has claimed that he is more worried about Fellaini.
“I’m worried about Fellaini and not about Luke Shaw because Fellaini finishes his contract and Luke Shaw doesn’t,” Mourinho was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
Besides Fellaini and Shaw, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Daley Blind and Ashley Young are all nearing the end of their contracts as well. It is important for us to hold on to these key players as it would require massive investment to find replacements for these quality players. Moreover, the squad seems happy and settled, and it would be unwise to break the harmony. Give them whatever they want!
