Star midfielder Paul Pogba is in line to mark his return from injury in the clash against Chelsea on November 5, before the international break. The French midfielder has been out of action since September 12 after picking up a hamstring injury against Basel in the Champions League. The 24-year-old is currently recuperating and there were contrasting reports about his condition and return.
French newspaper L’Equipe indicates that Pogba could make his return against Chelsea in the first week of November before the international break. The report also warned that the Red Devils should stop him from going on international duty with France. Any further injury aggravation would be frustrating for the club as well as the player himself.
Assuming that the dates are accurate and that United rest him in the international break, Pogba would be fit to face Newcastler United on November 18.
After making a record move back to Old Trafford, Pogba struggled to convince the critics with his performances last season. However, the arrival of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea seems to have liberated the midfielder, who has enjoyed an upturn of events.
Just when it looked like Pogba will have a greater role in reviving the club’s fortunes, the injury struck. Not that his absence was a letdown but Jose Mourinho did miss his ability in the last couple of matches.
A 0-0 stalemate at Liverpool was one of the low points of the season for the Red Devils who were criticised for the lack of intent shown on the pitch. That was followed by a 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town after which Mourinho was critical of the players’ drive.
United were in action in the mid-week and secured a 2-0 win over Swansea City, advancing to the quarters of the Carabao Cup. Mourinho was quick to praise his players.
He said:
“We were solid and professional, since the first minute.
“Great attitude, the match always in control and pleased with the result and the performance and the individual performances.
“We were solid, we were compact, and we were in control.”
The Red Devils will be taking on Tottenham Hotspur this weekend at Old Trafford as the team bids to get the season back on track. It is only goal difference that separates us from the third-placed Spurs, which makes this a pivotal clash.
How Mourinho would have liked to have Pogba at his disposal for this match! He could be praying for November 5 to come early!
