German international midfielder Marco Reus has agreed that he may have only one chance to earn something in his professional career. The 28-year-old has reiterated that he has only one chance to make a big money move before he hangs up his boots.
That is understandable, as Reus is one of the most talented midfielders in the world. Unfortunately, fitness has always been a concern for him.
He suffered yet another major injury at the end of last season as he tore his ACL. Reus is not expected to return to the field until March 2018 but that hasn’t led his current club Borussia Dortmund to keep him away from requesting clubs.
There were reports earlier in the summer that both Manchester United and Arsenal could be interested in signing the player. For the Gunners, it is a sense of Déjà vu as Reus is a constant name in the transfer rumors.
It was also reported that both the clubs are keeping their watch on Reus’ recovery as they feel that the German will make a difference to their sides.
It is a tricky situation that Reus finds himself in. At 29-years of age, it is safe to say that Reus’ longevity is not going to be more than 3-4 years; that too, only if the winger doesn’t pick another injury in the interim.
“There are four or five international clubs who interest me. On May 31 next year, I will turn 30. That would be my last big contract and a final opportunity to try something different,” Reus said (Quoted by Daily Mirror).
“I have to be honest and fair and say I don’t know where I’ll end up. At the moment, I’m very happy in Dortmund and not thinking about what happens after 2019. But, of course, the time will come and then I will sit down and calmly make a decision.”
However, quite unlike others, Reus is still a hot property in the transfer market and that explains why he is keeping his options open. Also, Reus would earn much more than what he is currently earning at Dortmund, his home team for the past five years.
With his contract expires, there will be some tough questions for Reus. He will have to take a decision as to whether he wants to stay in the Bundesliga or make a move to Manchester United.
The Red Devils faithful love pace and skills from their wingers and will not be disappointed to see Reus in full flow. However, fitness still remains his biggest worry, casting shadows over his move to Manchester United next summer.
