Cristiano Ronaldo

Former Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo wants his current team Real Madrid to bid for Marcus Rashford should they fail in the rumored pursuit of Tottenham’Hi’ Harry Kane.

According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, the Portuguese superstar is desperately trying to persuade his club president Florentino Perez to go for the new Old Trafford favourite if they fail to secure the signing of top target Kane.

There is no surprise that Rashford has attracted the attention of the Los Blancos. The Manchester United forward has impressed for Jose Mourinho’s side this season although he has been played on the wings.

It is a tribute to the youngster’s attitude that he has settled down into his role, keeping his ambitions of playing as central striker aside. He has scored 5 times and has provided 4 assists so far in 12 appearances this season.

The 19-year-old is an academy graduate at Old Trafford and burst onto the scene during Louis van Gaal’s reign. Call it an act of desperation or sheer need to push youngsters, the Dutch manager gave enough games for Rashford to impress. And, the England international was so clinical that the club supporters were left with no thoughts about the decline of Wayne Rooney.

Once Mourinho took charge at the club, the forward was used more on the wings last season to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic. With his express pace, he was a handful for the opposition and has impressed as a wide-man.

Marcus Rashford

Even this year, the arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Everton has meant that Rashford had to continue to be on the wings, competing with Anthony Martial. Once again, it is a tribute to his work ethic that Rashford continues to improve and impress. Links to Real Madrid are not threatening and instead, I consider that they are flattering for the youngster.

Real Madrid feel that signing Rashford could result in Karim Benzema staying at the Santiago Bernabeu with Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane ready to let Rashford develop slowly.

But, all this will be conjecture as it looks certain that Real Madrid would go all out to secure the signing of Kane. Even Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is aware of the links and has encouraged his protégé to take the links positively.

Pochettino told AS:

“He really takes it in his stride. Harry is a really mature lad, he sees things really clearly.

“His dream is to do something big at Tottenham, the club he’s a fan of.

“If the big teams recognise your work, and you’re in the press, all that does is to encourage you to carry on doing what you chose to do.

Rashford wouldn’t really want to swap clubs at this stage of his career, would he? He’s at the best club in England and there’s no better place for an Englishman to grow big.
