It has been just a little more than three years since Manchester United decided to sack David Moyes, and the Scot was back in news quite recently. Not for any sort of new appointment or anything, but for the comments he made on his Manchester United tenure.
Scaling Manchester United to the top of English eminence, Sir Alex Ferguson decided to give the reign to David Moyes, but little did he know how his decision would turn out to be. 10 months into the job, the United board decided to sack the Scot despite the likes of Denis Law and David Beckham citing to give him more time. United’s form took a sudden dip and several records – poor records – were broken under his management.
For the first time since 1995, United failed to qualify for the Champions League and also finished outside of the top three for the first time in Premier League history, and this is something very least I could state. Jose Mourinho recently made a comment on how Manchester United practically failed to evolve since Ferguson’s retirement and while addressing the same, Moyes finally decided to open up after all these years.
Moyes was quoted by Goal.com as saying,
“Jose has his opinion, but there was always going to be a transitional period after Sir Alex’s time was over.
“There was a changing of the guard. Not only did I replace Alex, David Gill had also stepped down as chief executive and Ed Woodward came in.
“So it was always going to take time. Yes, I took over the champions, but clubs like Chelsea and Man City spent huge amounts of that money that summer in a bid to overtake us.
“And it was difficult for me to go into Old Trafford and rip up the team that had just ran away with the title. Having said that, things would have been a lot different if we had landed our main transfer targets.
“We were in for Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas. They were genuine targets, but for one reason or another we didn’t get them over the line. Getting them would have been the perfect start in terms of reshaping the squad I inherited.
“Having said that, I accept totally that when you are manager of Manchester United, you have to win. I didn’t win enough. But I don’t think there is a manager out there who would have been able to do something better or quicker in the time I was given after Sir Alex retired. It was all about small margins.
“I have no regrets about taking the United job. When you get offered a job like that you take it. When you compare my season to what Jose achieved last season it is about those small margins.
“United were always going to have to go through a difficult time when Alex left.
“You only have to see how much money they have spent over the last three years just to build a team capable of challenging for the title again to see how difficult the job was.”
Manchester United fans, on their part, decided to have a little fun amongst themselves and wasted no time in roasting the Scot over on social media. This is how they reacted:
Remember him saying that “he’ll be trying to stop Newcastle” when we were set to play them at Old Trafford. Embarrassment.

The only season I thought we would lose both games at OT against Scousers & City. Was at game v Fulham, we were awful, job too big for him!

David Moyes’ opinion on this matter is entirely predictable and entirely ridiculous.
End discussion!

He should have stayed at everton! He punched above his weight and now his career is finished.

Wait a second.. all the ‘targets’ didn’t want to join you. A boring manager that’s accomplished nothing in his career.

So it’s Woodward’s fault. His lack of football knowledge led to him thinking moyes inherited a title winning team and didn’t need transfers

He got sacked from Real sociedad ffs !! He should think twice before speaking anything about management lol

Dear David Moyes,
Please stop talking about United.
From every #MUFC fan that had the misfortune of seeing you in our dugout!
Cheers

Moyes certainly proved that MUFC was a minor aberration when he went onto success with Real Soc and Sunderland didn’t he.

David Moyes needs to save his reputation as a manager by stop thinking & saying he did a good job at Utd, failed at Sunderland also. #MUFC
