Manchester United are weighing up the pros and cons of sending star midfielder Paul Pogba under the knife to find a solution to his troublesome hamstring injury, reports The Daily Mail.
The French midfielder has been out of action for United since injuring his hamstring during the Champions League clash against Basel on September 12. Pogba limped out of that match and has been put under recovery process from then.
He has been struggling with hamstring issues and the club medical staff are now deliberating if they should allow Pogba to recover naturally or send him for a surgery and speed up the process.
Surgeon Sakari Orava, who has in the past monitored Pogba, and is also helping the recovery of Barcelona star winger Ousmane Dembele, has spoken on the issue.
As reported by the French publication L’Equipe, Orava spoke about the similarities and differences of the two players with regards to their injuries.
“His wound is a bit different from Dembele because he can cure without surgery,” Orava stated.
The surgeon, however, was affirmative on the fact that an operation would be more beneficial for Pogba in this instance and that it is sure to help him return stronger than before.
A decision on the issue is set to be made next week as the Red Devils try to grapple with the idea of not having their star player for more time. After a struggling period last year where he had to endure the tag of being the most expensive player ever, Pogba started this season very brightly, enjoying attacking freedom in the wake of Nemanja Matic’s presence in the United midfield.
United face a tough run of fixtures without their superstar, starting with a long trip to Russia this week to face CSKA Moscow in the Champions League. The Red Devils will be in action this weekend against Crystal Palace but the crucial fixture that Pogba would miss is the crunch clash against bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
An official announcement is expected from the club in due course as the medical staff weigh all possible options and decide on the course of action.
No doubt, these are difficult times for the player and the fans alike as we wait with bated breath on what is in store.
