Former Tottenham Manager Backs 103-goal Superstar To Move To Manchester United

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has stirred the hornet’s nest by claiming that England international striker Harry Kane might leave Tottenham for Manchester United.

Sherwood was speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro) and said that should Spurs fail to notch up any trophies, the forward might explore the prospect of moving to United in the near future. The 24-year-old has already established himself as one of the most prolific forwards in Europe. In 171 appearances for the club, the forward has notched up an impressive 103 goals.

More importantly, the youngster has started asserting himself in the Premier League and has scored 20+ Premier League goals in each of the past three seasons.

Kane is one of the hotshots in the Premier League, catching the eye of Real Madrid and Manchester United. A lot of clubs tried to lure him away from the White Hart Lane but the 24-year-old stayed put at Spurs.

“There’s only so much loyalty someone can show,” Sherwood told Sky Sports (h/t Metro).

“Tottenham have been a great club for Harry and he’s been paying them back tenfold. He’s been outstanding over the last couple of seasons, he grew up a stone’s throw from the ground and the kid loves the club.

“But that only lasts a certain amount of time. Then he starts seeing the pound signs and sees the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid or – dare I say it – Manchester United – and then your head gets turned.”

One bone of contention could be that of wages. Kane is reported to be earning £100,000-a-week. These numbers are not huge, and this leaves a gap for wealthier clubs like Real and United to pounce on.

So, what does Kane bring to the battle? The England international may have walked into Jose Mourinho’s speed earlier but now with the emergence of Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, Kane could find his task cut out.

However, his ability to score goals in tougher situations and his age would mean the Red Devils would not be averse to signing him. The homegrown quota is something that the Mourinho would be aware of and would achieve it if Kane moves to the club.

As Sherwood says, Kane is a great driving force for Spurs and guarantees goals for his side. Should Mourinho sign Kane, the nexus of Lukaku, Kane and Marcus Rashford could propel them to greater heights.

So, will United splash the cash on Kane, if he becomes available? There is merit in the arguments on both sides but going behind his signature would be seen as a coup.
