Jose Mourinho has launched an audacious move to sign his protégé Willian from Chelsea by making a deadline-day bid, according to reports from The Sun.

If he is successful, this would be the second Chelsea player that Mourinho would have signed from his old club. He already signed Nemanja Matic earlier in the transfer window and we have all seen how good a signing he is turning out to be!

The Portuguese boss is a huge fan of Willian and publicly admitted his interest in signing him last season. The Brazilian was a key member of Jose’s title-winning side at Chelsea in 2014-15.

Mourinho is on the lookout for a wide man this transfer window, although it was supposed to be Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. The Croatian winger was linked on a daily basis although the San Siro club held firm and did not allow him to join Old Trafford.

Much of it has to do with the fact that both clubs differed in the valuations. Whatever it is, Perisic looks set to stay at Inter for another season and may even be offered new terms if reports are to be believed.

Would he be unhappy at not getting a wide man? Mourinho has already hinted that he is happy with the three signings that Ed Woodward has delivered – Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku, and Matic. Not many managers can boast of three-fourth of his targets accomplished by the board.

However, if he can reunite with Willian, it would represent a major coup. The Brazilian is a utility player and can fit in even as a wing back. So, be it his favorite 3-4-3 or the 4-2-3-1 or the 3-5-2, the 29-year-old can easily slot in.

Willian joined Chelsea in the summer of 2013 from Anzhi Makhachkala and has a contract that runs until 2020 with a £120,000-a-week salary. (Telegraph) As they have shown last summer, the Blues would be reluctant to see him leave – that too, to join a direct title challenger.

Do you think Jose Mourinho will be able to snatch Willian from Chelsea in the dying moments of this window?
