Manchester United have reportedly lodged a bid to sign Real Madrid’s Welsh superstar Gareth Bale. The attacker has been a long-term target at Old Trafford and considering the unrest around his future at the Santiago Bernabeu, the club chiefs feel that a deal can be done.

Spanish media reports citing Don Balon claim that the Red Devils have lodged a club-record £92million (€100million) move for Bale. Jose Mourinho has been looking for a world-class winger to complete his requirements for this season and wants to add the winger before the transfer deadline on Thursday.

The report also goes on to add that there is pressure on Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane to accept the bid as he can’t guarantee regular first-team action for Bale.

This is huge news because Mourinho, earlier in the summer, admitted defeat in the pursuit of Bale after the winger featured for Real in the 2-1 win over United in the European Super Cup. Zidane too unequivocally reiterated that the star winger was central to his plans.

But, the rise of Spanish forward Marco Asensio has skittled all these plans. Asensio has been a revelation at the club since the second half of the previous campaign and has been earmarked for greater things at Real Madrid.

The suspension of Cristiano Ronaldo opened the doors of first-team action for Asensio, who impressed in the 2-2 draw against Valencia. Bale was off-color in the match and was booed by his own fans. Zidane was quick to say that Bale was still vital for his side but it looks like the winger could be allowed to move out.

Moreover, Asensio is yet to sign an extension with the club and the club is looking to impress him with more opportunities. Once Ronaldo is back from suspension, it could be bench time for Bale.

Mourinho will be happy to lap up this opportunity considering his long-term interest in the player. Gareth Bale is rated highly within Old Trafford and with Real Madrid mulling over the proposed package, he could make his move this summer.

How exciting would it be if it happened!
