Manchester United are ready to push the scales higher as they pursue Tottenham midfielder, Eric Dier. Having already seen £40million bid rebuffed, the Red Devils are ready to test the resolve of The Lilywhites with a £60million offer, as per latest reports from The Mirror.
It is well known that our manager Jose Mourinho is looking to add steel to the midfield and liberate Paul Pogba. Even though Michael Carrick has signed an extension – which is great news for the club, Jose is still in the market for a defensive midfielder.
Dier has been earmarked as one of the top targets this summer with the club ready to double his current wages of £70,000 per week. Having already captured Romelu Lukaku, Ed Woodward is working hard to give finishing touches to Dier’s transfer.
The problem though has been Tottenham’s reluctance to sell. We all know how difficult it is to deal with Daniel Levy. The hard taskmaster has pinched us extra time and money in the past with Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov. Not just United, even Manchester City had to wriggle through a lot of tough negotiations before capturing Kyle Walker this season.
Dier is regarded as a key player by Spurs, but his playing time was limited last season due to Victor Wanyama’s consistent presence in the middle of the park. That is something Mourinho can guarantee at Old Trafford and something that might appeal to the young English midfielder.
What Does Dier Bring To Old Trafford?
A lot of versatility, since he can play equally well in defence and midfield. There won’t be any bedding period either as he has a lot of League knowledge. More importantly, his work ethic suits Mourinho’s ethos perfectly and should be a key signing for him.
Will Tottenham Budge?
They have been consistent in maintaining that Dier is not for sale at any price. We have seen in the past that such statements mean nothing especially if the offer is right. £60million for a benchwarmer is too good an offer to rebuff and even Levy will vouch for that. Looks like it will only be a matter of time before Dier becomes the next Red Devil.
