After poaching Romelu Lukaku – literally from the grasp of Chelsea – Manchester United are eager to finish their other business quickly.
Daily Star claims that Jose Mourinho now wants the executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to move fast towards his other targets. Top of that list is Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic. The Croatian international has continuously been linked with Old Trafford from the start of this transfer window.
However, Inter are adamant that the winger will not leave San Siro this summer. The 28-year-old winger is a favourite for Mourinho, who is believed to want Perisic in his ranks for next season. Inter director Piero Ausilio was insistent though, that the player is going nowhere.
Another player that is a strong Mourinho favourite this season is Eric Dier of Tottenham. The holding midfielder is highly rated at Old Trafford who view him as the long-term replacement of Michael Carrick. With first-team action not a guarantee at the White Hart Lane and the prospect of a higher wage package, the player is also supposedly keen on the move.
But Tottenham are strong in their reluctance to sell Dier at any price. Mauricio Pochettino views Dier as a key member of his squad, thanks to his versatility. And the view within the North London club is that even if Dier pushes for a move, it may not happen.
In case that deal doesn’t go through, Mourinho has plan-B in the form of AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainngolan. The tough-tackling midfielder was the subject of United interest in February and again in May. He could be the answer to United’s lack of steel in the midfield.
The 29-year-old is believed to be frustrated with the lack of intent shown by his club in the transfer window and may not be averse to a move. What complicates things is the interest of Chelsea in the same player.
Antonio Conte too views Nainggolan as an important addition to the squad as he gets ready to the prospect of losing Nemanja Matic – to Manchester United may be! With the transfers around Nainggolan and Matic intertwined with Chelsea, and the moves for Dier and Perisic threatening to be non-starters, Manchester United could be in for some disappointment.
