Jose Mourinho’s side have made a slow start in the transfer market so far this summer. That is set to change, though. United are keen to strengthen and are willing to splash the cash on the right players.
Last season was a strange one for United. In the league, we were well off-the pace, finishing 6th. However, we qualified for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, in Stockholm. We also won the League Cup by beating Southampton in the final.
Next campaign, we will have to improve drastically. Mourinho was brought in to win league titles and to take the club back to the top – where we belong.
This summer, United have only signed Swedish defender Victor Lindelof, from Benfica. Fans will be hoping for further additions before the transfer window closes.
The Independent reports that United will kick-start their transfer window soon, and that we will bring in more big money signings.
It is rumoured that the Red Devils are interested in taking both Nemanja Matic and Fabinho to Old Trafford (Independent). Matic is expected to join from Chelsea this week – a signing which will be met with a mixed reception from United fans. Then, we are expected to pursue Monaco’s Fabinho.
The Brazilian midfielder was one of many Monaco players who impressed the scouts across Europe last season, as the Principality club won the Ligue1 title and reached the Champions League semi-finals – defeating Manchester City along the way.
Strengthening the midfield is a clear priority for United. We are also chasing a top-class striker to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The talismanic Swede was released earlier this month, after a serious injury ensured he missed the latter stages of the last season.
Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata is the man who has been most talked about to fill the void, but Los Blancos are notoriously tough negotiators.
If they are to do business with United, then they may ask for David De Gea as part of a potential deal as they have a long-standing interest in the Spaniard (Don Balon). If that proves to be the case, then AC Milan’s wantaway goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma may be pursued by us (The Sun).
