Manchester United Set To Return Back To Barcelona To Sign €35m-rated Midfielder

Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, who was a transfer target for the club even last summer. We were linked with a move for the 23-year-old when it became apparent that he would be leaving Valencia in the summer of 2016.

However, the managerial change coupled with an uncertainty about the possibility of trophies at Old Trafford worked against the Red Devils in the race to sign the player, who ultimately chose Barcelona. He made the €35million switch to Barcelona last summer, but he comes on the back of a mixed campaign with the Catalan club.

Even though he was able to make 30 appearances in the league, only 17 were from the start. In the end, he managed to come up with figures of 3 goals and 3 assists in 47 games across all competitions. These are not spectacular figures for a €35million player, but it is clear that the midfielder struggled to assert his authority at the club.

Gomez faces more uncertain future at Camp Nou as the club have undergone a managerial change with Ernesto Valverde taking over as Barcelona manager. The approach that would be taken by the former Athletic Bilbao manager remains to be seen.

According to Spanish news outlet AS, Gomes is unsettled with his position at Barcelona, and would prefer a move to a club where he would be treated with much more importance. Manchester United have been alerted about the status of the player, and it is speculated that the Red Devils will enter into the race for the 23-year-old with plans to sign him as a future replacement for Michael Carrick.

The presence of Spaniards like David de Gea, Juan Mata, and Ander Herrera will certainly appeal to Gomes, as it would help him settle quickly in a new environment.

United, though, are aware that it would take a lot of money to buy the player. Money has never been a problem for us so if it is that Jose is serious about the player, then a move could certainly happen.
