Manchester United have already begun the process of strengthening the team in order to cope with a season that will have Champions League football. Sky Sports reported that United are in discussions with Inter Milan over the transfer of Ivan Perisic, a player who has also caught the attention of clubs like Chelsea. Perisic came to Inter Milan back in the summer of 2015. He remains as one of the saleable assets at the club.
Inter Milan are looking to spend big in the summer transfer window after coming under the ownership of Chinese investors. Hence, the club are chasing some big-money signings in the summer and they would like to make space in the squad by selling some of the existing top players like Perisic. At 28 years of age, the player’s transfer value will only go down in the coming years. However, Manchester United are showing strong interest in the player.
Jose Mourinho is keen on strengthening the offensive positions and Perisic has been one of the better players in this position across European football over the last few years. Even though Inter Milan come on the back of a disappointing campaign in which they failed to finish even close to the top five, Perisic had an extremely good campaign after contributing 11 goals and nine assists in 36 league matches. These are excellent figures for a winger, while Perisic is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder.
Perisic has a contract with Inter Milan until the summer of 2020, but the possibility of leaving Inter Milan has cropped up in recent times. Manchester United need to be quick if they are interested in acquiring the 28-year-old, as it is believed that Chelsea have also entered into the race for the winger. Apart from capable of strengthening the wings, the midfielder will also be able to play as an attacking midfielder just like Juan Mata.
As a manager who has always loved versatile players, Jose Mourinho is understood to be keen on Perisic, especially after seeing Manchester City win the race for Bernardo Silva from Monaco. United were also in the race for the 22-year-old, but rivals City managed to complete the £43million deal for the player.
Even as plenty of negotiations are taking place for players like Perisic, manager Jose Mourinho was recently caught at the Monaco Grand Prix enjoy his holidays.
