Manchester United are reportedly close to re-signing former defender Michael Keane from Burnley. Keane initially left Old Trafford in 2014 to join Burnley on loan, before eventually joining them on a permanent basis in 2015. It is indeed surprising to see his rapid rise, considering that he was sold only a couple of years back.
Keane has been brilliant for Burnley this season and was even nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, which was eventually won by Tottenham’s Dele Alli. The 24-year old has been instrumental in Burnley’s survival in the Premier League this season after they were widely tipped to go down back to the Championship.
The Englishman has played 39 games for the Clarets and has 2 goals and an assist to his name. Given that he was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, the interest from top clubs is natural. Now, The Times are reporting that Manchester United are on the verge of completing a £25million move for the youngster.
The report also says that Manchester United have faced off competition from Everton and Liverpool for the talented Englishman, who would be the second re-signing in Mourinho era, after Pogba’s arrival from Juventus. United re-signed Paul Pogba in a world record £89million deal last summer and it looks like it could be another homecoming for a former Manchester United youngster.
The report from The Times also revealed that the 20-time English champions allowed Keane to join Burnley for £2m ($2.6m) and inserted a 25% sell-on clause. This means that United will have to pay far less than other clubs in signing him.
The Burnley manager already admitted that Burnley would be open to the idea of sanctioning Keane’s sale “if all parties agree”. Dyche told talkSPORT,
“It is more of case of doing what is right in any situation. If all parties agree, that might be something the club have to look at just by the realities of what it is in the Premier League but we are certainly in very healthy shape so we don’t have to make any decisions for any other reason than we think it is appropriate.”
“It is the balance of what you are doing at a club like this. You want your players to be successful, which is good for them, good for the team, good for the club. On the other hand, that does bring interest.”
It looks like the parties are all ready to agree on a deal and it could be possible that Keane will be a Manchester United player next season.
Do you think it is a good move by Manchester United to re-sign Keane?
