Manchester United Alerted About the Availability of €35m-Rated Former Midfield Target

Manchester United are ready to make a move for Renato Sanches, who has failed to settle at Bayern Munich as per reports from the Kicker (h/t GGFN).

The 19-year-old was signed by the German outfit only last summer for a hefty €35 million. Prior to the move to the German club, Sanches was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. However, the managerial change meant that the club were unable to complete the transfer in time. Mourinho’s strong connections with Portuguese football were seen as a positive factor in the race to sign Sanches, but Bayern Munich were able to complete the transfer on July 1 – much sooner than United would have hoped.

Now, the player is reportedly on the transfer market with Bayern Munich ready to sell him if they receive the €35 million back. Sanches has made just 17 appearances for the club in the Bundesliga, only six of which have been from the start. While he will have a Bundesliga medal to his name, Sanches has had little impact on the pitch. The central midfielder has not been able to contribute even a single assist or goal. This even extends to the other competitions like the Champions League and the DFB Pokal. In total, Sanches has made 25 appearances in all competitions with no goals and assists.

Bayern Munich would have considered keeping their faith on the player for more seasons to come if he had a half decent record. Yet, this disastrous first season in German football is likely to spell a quick end to Sanches’ time at Allianz Arena. After having failed to win the Champions League even after appointing Carlo Ancelotti, the club are expected to undergo vast changes across the pitch. The club are finally seeing the need for replacing players like Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, who are coming towards the end of their careers at the top of the game.

Sanches would be thrilled at the possibility of being united with Jose Mourinho. This move would help him gain more traction at the national team level. Since making his debut for Portugal in March 2016, Sanches has gone on to become a first-team regular for the national team. He has featured in 12 games and scored one goal. However, the player is aware that he may not get much first-team opportunities with the national team if he continues to be on the bench more often than not at the Allianz Arena.

Do you think United should rekindle their interest in Sanches?
