Manchester United are reportedly ready to hijack Tottenham’s move for winger Bruma. The Galatasaray winger has been subjected to heavy transfer speculation in the last 12 months. After managing to resist any transfer offers up until now, it looks like Galatasaray will finally yield in the summer. Mounting concerns about the club’s finances, due to the lack of Champions League football, may lead the departure of some key players.
Bruma has been one of the best players in the Turkish league this season. He has scored eight goals and created eight assists in 30 games across all competitions for Galatasaray. Yet, this has not exactly translated into a lot of success for Galatasaray, who are struggling in the fourth spot of the Turkish league table. The club are behind Besiktas, Istanbul Basaksehir, and Fenerbahce. Only the top two teams will be able to qualify for the Champions League next season. As it stands, Galatasaray will only be able to finish in the Europa league and it may not be enough to keep players like Bruma at the club.
Tottenham have been watching the winger for quite a while and it is expected that they will come in with a £ 9 million offer in the summer. However, it has also emerged that Jose Mourinho is also keeping tabs on the situation. The Portuguese has been keen on bringing Bruma even he was at Chelsea. Yet, the move did not materialise with the winger constantly shifting between the likes of Real Sociedad and Galatasaray. The Turkish outfit signed the player from Sporting CP back in 2013. Since then, he has played for the likes of Gaziantepspor and Real Sociedad on loan deals before returning back to the Turkish outfit.
With the choice of Tottenham and Manchester United, Bruma is likely to choose the latter even if they are without Champions League football. Bruma recently revealed that Jose Mourinho had personally been in touch with him to say that his good performances will eventually lead to an appearance in the Portuguese national team.
“He congratulated me for the performance and said he was impressed with me,”
“He promised to closely monitor my work and said I could play for the national team soon.” Bruma was quoted as saying by Turkish-football.
Both clubs will be looking to take advantage of the player’s contract situation. Galatasaray have been unable to come to an agreement with the player and he has only 14 months left on his contract. Bruma is yet to make his debut for Portugal. However, he has featured in all the youth team levels with his majority of appearances coming for the Portugal under 19 team.
