Manchester United Transfer News
Barcelona are seriously considering the possibility of making a move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann after (reportedly) Lionel Messi has requested the club to strengthen significantly in the summer by signing the French star. The club exited the Champions League quarter-finals stages after a 3-0 aggregate loss against Juventus. The club would not have even reached the stage of the competition had it not been for an incredible comeback win over Paris St Germain in the previous round. Apart from having to digest the disappointment of European football coming to a premature end, Barcelona are also likely to end the campaign without the league title.
Widely regarded as one of the best clubs in the world, Barcelona have been enjoying a purple patch with regard to trophies in the last decade. They have been incredibly successful in this period. Some of the best players in the world have been able to grace their presence at the Camp Nou, but none more so than Lionel Messi. It is clear that the Argentine superstar is not the player that he once was. After having scored almost 100 goals in a calendar year a few years ago, the Argentine is now facing games in which he is not able to make much of an impact.
The entire Barcelona squad appears to recognise that the club is need of vast strengthening. However, they are set to tempt Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Antoine Griezmann. The French superstar has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United over the last few months. In fact, the Red Devils are thought to have wrapped up the transfer. Griezmann may be making the £ 86 million move to Old Trafford in the summer if Barcelona does not enter into the picture at the last moment. The Catalan club are ready to make an offer for the player. In such an instance, Griezmann would rather prefer playing in Spain rather than moving to a new league where he may or may not succeed.
Barcelona will also be able to offer him the prestige of competing for the major honours straightaway. Manchester United have struggled when it comes to competing against the best in the last four years. Even after the arrival of Jose Mourinho, the club are currently fighting to finish in the top four.
