Only a few days ago, Manchester United midfielder Adnan Januzaj stated his intention to remain in the Premier League despite a poor loan spell with Sunderland. However, it appears that he may be on his way to Turkish football with Fenerbahce reportedly close to completing a deal for the youngster.
The Belgian came to prominence at United in stunning fashion, as he was one of the bright aspects in David Moyes’ poor campaign at the club. However, the youngster was unable to sustain his growth and development in the same manner.
After falling out of favour under Louis van Gaal, it was expected that the Belgian may try to impress Jose Mourinho for another attempt at Old Trafford. This has not been the case as the youngster has been immediately loaned out to Sunderland, where he was expected to make an impact as one of the club’s top talent. Yet, the 22-year-old has managed to score only two goals and create only three goals in 26 appearances for Sunderland, who are rooted to the bottom of the table.
He is not in the long-term plans at Manchester United and the Red Devils are ready to listen to offers for the player. While the player remains keen on his stay in the Premier league, there has been little interest from clubs in England in order to acquire his services on a permanent basis. On the other hand, moving to Fenerbahce will represent a positive step for the player, as he will be able to play Champions League football once again. At the moment, Fenerbahce are just outside the top two places, which will provide Champions League. They stand to qualify for the Europa League if they finish in the third and fourth places.
Fenerbahce will be able to secure the signing of the player for a relatively small transfer fee considering that his contract is about to end in the summer of 2018.
The Turkish league has been the home for several former Premier league players. Moving to the club will not only allow Januzaj to experience European football, but it would also provide him with much-needed confidence in order to rediscover his form. Lack of confidence has been cited as one of the primary reasons for Januzaj being unable to make an impact. Since Sunderland are on the verge of relegation to the Championship, they would be unable to afford a player like Januzaj.
