Manchester United Transfer News
Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele has emerged as one of the top transfer targets for Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to fresh reports. It is believed that Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a new forward, as there are growing concerns about the availability of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney next season.
Ibrahimovic is yet to confirm his presence at Old Trafford next season. With his contract running out in the summer, the striker has not signed an extension yet. The striker has been a huge presence in the club’s push for a top four position, as he has scored 28 goals in all competitions.
Dembele is seen as one of the top-rated young talents in the world. His talent convinced Dortmund to buy him in the summer of 2016. He has made incredible progress in the last 12 months. While he has not exactly scored a lot of goals, his major contribution has been his versatility and ability to bring others into play. Dembele has scored eight goals in 42 appearances this season, but he has had 18 assists in these matches. It is believed that Mourinho sees the 19-year-old as the perfect replacement for Anthony Martial, who has been linked with a loan move to Sevilla.
United are ready to break the bank and pay £5o million in order to sign the player. However, convincing Dortmund to sell the star will not be easy considering that they have invested a lot of resources into him. At just 19 years of age, he has the ability to progress into one of the next great forwards at the SIGNAL IDUNA Park. Over the years, the club has witnessed some excellent forwards like Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus. Just like those two players, Dembele has the ability to impress any manager with his versatility. He can play across the front three when he can also drop into the midfield when required.
The player has been making incredible progress since joining Dortmund and this has not gone unnoticed at the international level. He made his debut for France only in September 2016 but he has already gone on to make five appearances for the national team. It is expected that French national team boss Didier Deschamps will look to build the team around Dembele, especially considering that there appears to be no way back for Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema.
Dembele is under contract to Dortmund until the summer of 2021. Recent interest from United may force the club to offer him a new deal.
