European giants Real Madrid have been told that they will have to pay close to £60 million if they are to land Manchester United superstar David De Gea this summer.
Reports in Spain claimed that there was a release clause in De Gea’s contract which was worth £52 million but the Daily Mail say that there is no release clause in the Spaniard’s contract and Real Madrid have to pay whatever amount of money Manchester United demand.
David De Gea has 2 more years left on his contract and hence Manchester United will be looking to sit down with the player at the end of the season to discuss his future. The Sun reported that the club are set to talk to the player as they look to ward off the looming threat of Los Blancos. A new contract could be on the table, with a pay rise being offered to the Spaniard.
This might be a great idea as making the Spaniard sign a new contract would chase Real Madrid away for few years. De Gea reportedly earns £200,000-per-week at Old Trafford and he would earn some massive money if a wage rise is offered to him.
It was claimed by Daily Mail that in order for Real to sign the United No.1, they might have to pay double of what Juventus paid for Buffon’s services. This would make De Gea the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of football.
Jose Mourinho ensured that he kept his No.1 close when taking over from Louis van Gaal. He appointed De Gea’s former mentor Emilio Alvarez as the club’s goalkeeping coach. Alvarez was crucial to the Spaniard’s development at Atletico Madrid and De Gea is thought to be more engaged during training sessions at Carrington than under Van Gaal’s team. The pair have regularly undertaken extra sessions together, despite the intense calendar.
Even though United still face a battle for the top four, De Gea is thought to be confident Mourinho is guiding the club in the right direction.
However, if Manchester United miss out on Champions League football next season as well, then De Gea might consider an offer from a club of Real Madrid’s size. The Spanish giants would be looking to add more Spanish players to their team and De Gea would fit in perfectly at Real.
Although there is no shortage of world-class goalkeepers in football right now, David De Gea would probably be the preferred choice because of his nationality and his experience and relationship with Sergio Ramos. He plays regularly for the Spanish national team along with Ramos and this would be a really important factor to consider.
Manchester United are under no pressure to sell the shot-stopper and hence Real Madrid would have to tempt United with an irresistible offer to make them part ways with their No.1.
For now, all is calm in the David De Gea saga.
