Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea winger Willian in the summer. Jose Mourinho is believed to be planning some changes in his team and it appears as though the Manchester United boss is keen on a revamp in the summer.
According to Yahoo Sport UK, Man Utd are plotting moves for Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea attacker Willian.
Both the players are crucial for their respective teams and hence it will not be easy for the United boss to sign them.
However, with Alderweireld not having signed a contract extension yet, it might be a good choice for Mourinho to pounce on the defender and lure him to Manchester.
A host of Tottenham players signed contract extensions with the club and Alderweireld was reportedly close to agreeing on a new deal as well. The club have not yet officially announced anything regarding the issue and it looks feasible for Toby to move away from White hart Lane.
Alderweireld has gone on to establish himself as a mainstay in the Tottenham team and is now a crucial member of their lineup. He has partnered well with Vertonghen and even led the line when Jan Vertonghen was out injured. He has seen massive growth as a player and the interest from the Portuguese manager is only natural.
Manchester United have their back line tightly knit but it looks like some changes might be necessary. The likes of Jones and Smalling have only been decent players and not someone extraordinary. Clearly, Alderweireld would be an upgrade on few Manchester United defenders.
On the other hand, it is believed that Willian was targeted by Mourinho when he arrived at the club and that the club tried to bring the Chelsea star to Manchester. Mourinho and Willian have worked together in the past and know each other really well. With uncertainty surrounding Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract extension and Wayne Rooney’s role being limited to the bench this season, buying Willian would work for Jose.
Anthony Martial, though he is being deployed on the wings, is naturally a striker and hence signing Willian would let Martial play up front, either by fighting for the place with Zlatan, or by replacing the departing Zlatan.
Mata’s rise has been remarkable and it looks highly unlikely that the Spaniard would be sold. Hence, a move for Willian would make sense if either Zlatan or Rooney leave the club in the summer.
