£70,000-a-week Manchester United Starlet Targeted By Newcastle United

Luke Shaw of Manchester United

Newcastle seem destined to return to the Premier League as they continue their charge for the Championship title. The Magpies have been great under Rafa Benitez and are sure shots for automatic qualification unless something truly awful strikes the club.

Benitez knows that he will have to add quality to his side as they look to remain in the top flight of English football and the Daily Star claims that the Spaniard will make a move for Manchester United’s left-back Luke Shaw.

The former Southampton man has had a poor time under Jose Mourinho and even after returning from injury, he seems set for the bench and has little future at the club at the moment. Mourinho even had a pop at Shaw by claiming that the player wasn’t good enough or playing well enough for the side.

While Shaw only moved to the club at the start of the 2014-15 season, the Englishman has only played 43 games for the Red Devils, though injury has blighted his time at Old Trafford.

Newcastle would certainly be happy in bringing in a player who has a lot of Premier League quality and will have a point to prove to his former owners. Shaw is also great in attack and is known for his crossing ability, something that Aleksandar Mitrovic could exploit next season.

United would also be looking to recoup as much as money as possible after splashing out a huge sum for the teenager back then. However, the major problem would be the relationship between the two managers.

Mourinho and Benitez have been at each other since their respective times at Liverpool and Chelsea. Benitez even took over from Mourinho at Inter Milan and at Real Madrid but it didn’t turn out all that great for the Spaniard at both the clubs.

Shaw will also be looking for a fresh challenge as he does need to play regular football and a loan deal might suffice for the Englishman next season. The move seems to be a difficult one unless Newcastle decide to spend heavily on the 21-year-old. If the deal does go through, it would be a great one for the Magpies.
