Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly ‘dreaming’ of signing Real Madrid duo Alvaro Morata and Raphael Varane, according to Marca. Jose has worked with Morata and Varane during his time as Real Madrid manager and is seemingly interested in snatching the duo away from the Spanish capital.
Manchester United have been consistent with their performances this season, though they endured a slow start to their life under Jose Mourinho. A lot of money was invested last summer in landing Paul Pogba and it looks like the same might happen next summer as well as the Portuguese aims to land the Real Madrid youngsters.
Morata and Varane have made 33 and 31 appearances respectively under Zinedine Zidane and have been itching to play more. However, it has not been possible, with Karim Benzema being the preferred striker for Zidane. Raphael Varane, on the other hand, has struggled to displace Pepe and Ramos from the starting XI.
It might be possible that the duo is looking for a move with them getting less time on the pitch. However, it might be a bad idea for them to move to Manchester United as there are already enough players at the club fighting for their places.
Maybe, Morata would do well to consider Man Utd, but Raphael Varane would be wasting his time in doing so. There are a lot of quality defenders in the United squad and hence it would be better for Varane to think twice before moving to Manchester United. However, Morata would benefit moving to Old Trafford as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is stalling on his contract extension with the club. Even otherwise, the striker is 35 years old and it makes sense for Mourinho to look at alternatives for the giant Swede.
Morata has scored 13 goals and 4 assists this season and is on the verge of breaking into the Real Madrid first team, with Benzema struggling for form. On the other hand, Varane has scored 4 goals and 1 assist for the club and with him being a centre-half, the numbers are quite impressive. He has played a total of 2742 minutes on the pitch.
United would surely be a force to reckon with if they manage to sign these two players and it would be safe to say that Jose Mourinho is dreaming about right things and right players.
