Manchester United have a secret agreement with AS Monaco for Portuguese winger Bernardo Silva. According to Metro, Man Utd have the first option on the winger and they have to activate the option within a certain date before the player is available in the transfer market.
Bernardo Silva has been outstanding for Monaco this season and has 9 goals and 7 assists to his name so far. Since joining Monaco in 2014 on loan, and then moving permanently in 2015, Silva has contributed to 40 goals in 3 seasons. The fact that he is only 22 years old only makes it easy to believe that he is going to get better with time.
A product of Benfica youth system, Silva never got a chance to shine for Benfica and Monaco have reacted well to grab the winger permanently after a good season on loan in 2014/15, where he scored 10 and assisted 4.
His performances are not coincidental. Silva has been vital for Jardim ever since he took over at Monaco. The youngster has made 126 appearances for Jardim’s Monaco in 2 and a half seasons so far and this highlights how Silva is rated by his manager.
Jardim has made Monaco a real force in Ligue1 and it has been reflected in the league standings. Monaco are now on top of the table, 3 points ahead of the free-spending Paris Saint-Germain. They have scored a whopping 74 goals in 26 league games, which is 26 goals more than the second-placed PSG, who have scored 50 goals this term.
Monaco’s goal difference is a remarkable +52. Amazingly, Monaco have not been too reliant on one player when it comes to expecting goals. Of course, Falcao has scored 18 goals in the league this year, but Monaco have performed well as a team and that has been the key to their solid season.
Silva’s contribution to Monaco cannot be underplayed as he is one of the vital cogs of the team’s steamrolling performances. Bernardo Silva might look to stick around with the French club, as it is a team that is on the up in world football. They’ve been consistent in the league and are showing big signs of progress, and they are also making strides in Champions League football.
They beat Arsenal in the round of 16 stage of 2014/15 Champions League and are now looking to eliminate Manchester City this season, at the same stage of the competition. They put on a wonderful performance, but let a 3-2 lead slip away and saw Man City win 5-3. However, the 3 away goals they’ve scored will prove decisive and Pep’s men will find it difficult to hold Monaco as the side are known for their goal scoring ability.
Signing a player like Bernardo Silva from a team like Monaco will be a shrewd move and the player’s age and experience makes him a great choice for Jose Mourinho.
