Monaco full-back Fabinho has revealed his plans for the future and has talked up a move to the Premier League. The versatile defender was speaking ahead of their Champions League trip to Manchester City and has admitted that Premier League would be a great place to be in.
Speaking ahead of the clash,
“I have a contract until 2021, but the Premier League is a league that interests me and maybe one day I will come and play here,” Fabinho said. “I know my name was linked with more than one English club but I am happy at Monaco at the moment. He spoke about clubs that I might have been interested in in the past,” Fabinho added.
However, the defender was quick to point out that he is only focused on the task ahead of them and that he is thinking about the game against Man City.
“It’s not topical, I don’t think about it at the moment, I am very much focused on Monaco and tomorrow’s game”, he said.
Pep Guardiola is believed to be looking to sign a full-back, with both Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta well into their 30s. This would surely put United under pressure and they may have to react quickly to sign the talented defender if they are to have any chance of landing him.
Earlier, Fabinho’s father Joao revealed that they had already held talks with some clubs, claiming that Arsenal and Manchester United are interested and that they have a ‘soft spot’ for Manchester City.
Fabinho also spoke highly of young striker Kylian Mbappe, who has been terrific for this season so far.
When asked about the teenager, he said,
“He is someone who is full of surprises for us. I see him every day, he has an amazing ability and that makes him stand out for everyone else. He is a great player, an important player and can become even bigger, he will progress.”
He also spoke about how they will handle Manchester City and their dangerous attack, and said that they may alter their approach for this encounter.
Fabinho said, “We are here to win. We might alter slightly the way we play, our opponents are really good in attack so we are going to have to keep close eye on them.”
It is now quite clear that there have been approaches from England and that the player himself is interested in Premier League. It is only a matter of time before the bids arrive and the summer window will certainly see Fabinho negotiating with a number of clubs.
Manchester United would benefit a lot by signing Fabinho as he would certainly add quality and depth to their back line. Although Fabinho’s father has told the press that they have a ‘soft spot’ for Man City, it only looks like he said it because he wants to keep his options open. It was evident in his presser that they are keeping their tabs open.
It will be interesting to see if Mourinho would link up with Fabinho once again.
