Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes recently spoke highly about Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos making the switch to Old Trafford in the near future. Since his move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2014, Kroos has been one of the best players for Real Madrid. He has already managed to win the Champions League with his new team while going on to win other honours like the UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. Yet, there have been rumours that Kroos is not entirely happy with his time at the club.
Scholes spoke about the possibility of United moving to sign Kroos. The pass master recently signed a new long-term contract with Real Madrid that will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2022. However, Madrid are a team which disposes of their stars – even when they have a lot of gas left in their tank – in order to sign new Galacticos. It is believed that the club are considering such a move.
However, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has rejected any truth in the rumours by saying that the German international is not going anywhere. Kroos is thought to be extremely happy playing under Zinedine Zidane, according to Guillem Balague. He said:
“No, Toni Kroos has all the intention in the world to stay at Madrid.”
The French World Cup winner has certainly got the best out of the German international in the last 12 months. Real Madrid have gone from a team being highly reliant on Cristiano Ronaldo in order to get the past games to being a complete outfit in which every player contributes heavily.
This has helped the club top the table and be in a very strong position for the league title since the last won it in the 2011-12 season. Kroos may have scored only one league goal this season, but he has contributed an immense nine assists in the 15 starts. The 27-year-old has now created the most number of chances in the La Liga this season followed by Neymar of Barcelona. In comparison, the Manchester United midfielder has struggled when it comes to creating chances.
Even after bringing in Paul Pogba from Juventus, United have struggled largely because Pogba has been utilised as a player in a much forward position. Scholes comparing himself with Kroos is a huge sign that the former United midfielder sees a lot of potential in the German being able to dictate the play at United and bring the kind of success that has gone missing since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
