Manchester United have reportedly reopened talks with Monaco winger Bernardo Silva – reports The Sun. The 22-year-old was linked with the Premier league outfit during January, but a concrete offer did not arrive considering the stature of the player. Regarded as one of the highly talented youngsters in world football, Silva has been attracting attention from across Europe. Top clubs are reportedly ready to pay around £70 million for the winger. As a club steeped in tradition with regard to top wingers, it is natural that United have entered into the race for the player.
After recently selling Memphis Depay to Lyon for around £20 million, Manchester United may be in the need for a new wide player. Striker Anthony Martial has also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho, but the Frenchman denied the rumours, but nothing is certain this Sport.
Anthony also plays in the left wing position despite being a forward by nature. Only a few months ago, United seemed extremely strong in this position. Now, the arrival of Silva could boost Mourinho’s options in the wings. Ashley and Wayne Rooney are also expected to depart the club in the summer.
Silva cost only £13 million from Benfica in the summer of 2015. This season, he has been a major factor behind Monaco challenging for the league title. He has scored five goals and created seven in 23 appearances this season. The last transfer between Monaco and Manchester United was striker Radamel Falcao, and it did not necessarily work out as both parties had hoped.
After recently announcing the club’s financial results, Manchester United Chief Executive Ed Woodward claimed that the club will not be churning out players like they have done in the last four years. The club will be extremely cautious with regard to their transfer activity. Only the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Silva, and Victor Lindelof have been linked with a move to United in the summer. A bigger priority seems to be retaining the players at the club. As a result, the club have made a move to retain midfielder Ander Herrera.
Manchester United are considering the possibility of discussing new terms with midfielder Ander Herrera, whose contract runs out at the end of next season. Herrera has been indispensable to Manchester United’s style of play in the last few months. His presence has allowed midfielder Michael Carrick to have an enormous influence on the pitch. The 35-year-old cannot cover the ground anymore, and Herrera’s incredible energy allows him to do the work of two players at once. While Carrick is expected to receive a new contract with a significant drop in wages, Herrera could be made as one of the highest earning midfielders at the club.
