Red Devils star makes shocking admission Man Utd is not his 'dream' club

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has rubbished claims that he joined Manchester United for money and insists he only moved for bigger challenges. In an Interview with sport BILD, Mkhitaryan opened up about his switch to Old Trafford and his future endeavors.

He further went on to say that the Old Trafford club isn’t his dream destination, but the kind of challenge they were offering were enough to lure him out of the German club.

“United might not have been my dream club, but they have always been among the best clubs in the world for me.”

“Manchester United are a bigger club than Borussia Dortmund, everyone knows that and we should just accept that. It was a new challenge for me that I could not turn down.”

When asked about the financial intentions behind his move to Manchester United, Mkhitaryan was quick to dismiss the claims.

“I find it hard to understand criticism that I joined United for the money. That is simply wrong,” he added.

“Had it all been about money for me, I would have left for Shakhtar Donetsk for Anzhi Makhachkala rather than Borussia Dortmund.

“But that was not what I wanted. I wanted to keep on developing.

“My decision to leave Dortmund was not a decision against the club. It was just time for a new challenge.”

It appears that Mkhitaryan is relishing the challenges of the highly intense English league and has managed to warrant a place in the starting XI, after being made to gradually adapt to the new surroundings by his Portuguese manager.

Mkhitaryan has so far received Mourinho’s backing and a player of his class deserves such support. Even though he struggled a lot during the initial stages of the league, he eventually regained his form and the credit must go to the brilliance of Jose Mourinho, who was then criticized for freezing Mkhitaryan out of the squad.

With his first season in English football being a decent one so far, it will be interesting to see if he can cope with the usual second season syndrome that players go through after moving to England.
