A new day and a rumour, but this time around it might be a serious one, as according to the reports from the Daily Mirror, Jose Mourinho has identified Chelsea’s midfield reinforcer Nemanja Matic as an able replacement for the recently departed Morgan Schneiderlin.
Jose Mourinho finally ended the Frenchman’s horror-show at the Old Trafford by allowing him to leave for the Goodison Park outfit and that certainly has left a void, and to fill that, Jose Mourinho’s trusted deputy – Nemanja Matic – could well be heading to Manchester.
Besides that, it is also expected that Matic will be replacing the ageing legs of Michael Carrick, who will be turning 36 just days before the start of the next season. The 35-year-old has been in good form this season, but he does not really have time on his side. With United getting £22 million from Schneiderlin’s negotiation, Mourinho is certainly expected to spend this amount to bring in a quick replacement, as they will be short in number from the next season.
The same source has further mentioned that Mourinho has identified four new signings he wants to bring at the Old Trafford next season and one of those four is Antoine Griezmann, and the other; Nemanja Matic. It is certainly an inevitable task to replace the tactical genius of Michael Carrick, but Mourinho believes that the Serbian would be a perfect recruit.
Matic was brought by Jose Mourinho during his Chelsea stint, and in the year Chelsea were crowned as the Champions of England, Matic’s performance was sublime and even though he failed to follow up in the next season, his unsung attributes this season have helped his cause perfectly.
Chelsea, right at this very moment, are quite concerned about the situation of Diego Costa as he was left out from the squad that faced Leicester City last weekend, and even though the manager simply refused every claim of the reported bust-up, it is quite certain that the former Atletico Madrid man is a subject of an interest from the Chinese Super League and the last thing Chelsea would want is to lose him.
In the midst of all this, Mourinho’s link with Matic would come as a major shock to Antonio Conte. Chelsea do have Cesc Fabregas to cover things up, but the Spaniard’s cannot really match the physical prowess of the Serbian.
Will Matic be a good fit for United is a question for another time, but will Chelsea allow him to leave Stamford Bridge?
It is all but certain that a major overhaul will take place at the Theatre of Dreams in the coming summer and a good defensive midfielder will be one of the main priority. Will it be Matic? We’ll have to wait half a season to find out.
