Manchester United are concerned that striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic may not end up taking the second year offer. Ibrahimovic joined the Red Devils on a one-year contract in the summer and manager José Mourinho recently revealed that the club was planning to offer the player a one-year contract extension, although it would depend on the player being interested in such a possibility.
His incredible fitness level, considering his age, has been a major factor in Manchester United remaining in contention for the top four places. It is no coincidence that the striker endured a poor form during the months of October and November, while Manchester United also went through a similar poor run during this period. Fresh transfer rumours have linked Ibrahimovic with a move to the MLS now and Ibrahimovic is also thought to be contemplating such a move if he thinks that United will not be challenging for the title next season, according to the reports from the Sun.
After having won the league title in Holland, France, Italy and Spain, Ibrahimovic is looking to win the title for the first time in England. It would truly place among the great forwards in the history of the game for this reason alone. Manchester United are certain not to win the title this season as confirmed by Mourinho himself. However, next season represents a new possibility since the club are expected to strengthen once again in the summer, while Mourinho will also have had 12 months to learn more about his squad.
Ibrahimovic has been a model professional, while Mourinho is extremely happy with the way he has inspired many of the youngsters at the club. However, these qualities could end up limiting his time at Old Trafford, Ibrahimovic does not want to just pick up huge wages without winning major honours.
The win against Crystal Palace was largely inspired by Ibrahimovic with the striker providing the assist for the opening goal scored by Paul Pogba. The Frenchman later returned the favour with a well weighted through ball in the final few minutes of the game.
The victory has given United their first back-to-back victories in the league for the first time since the opening weekend when they won against Bournemouth and Southampton. The club are looking to make it three consecutive league victories, and four wins in the last five games of all competitions, when they take on West Brom at the Hawthorns this weekend. It would be a difficult encounter with United’s last victory at this ground coming in 2014.
