Manchester United boss José Mourinho says that he is ready to listen to transfer offers for some of his players, according to the reports from Express Sport. It is widely believed that Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin, both of whom joined United for £25 million, are the players heading for an exit in January.
A number of United stars like Bastian Schweinsteiger have featured very marginally under the regime of the Portuguese and even though Mourinho has been criticised for making a decision on players too early, some of those decisions have proved correct.
The likes of Depay and Schneiderlin have not made much of an impact when offered a chance, although it has largely been as a substitute.
Mourinho says that he is ready to listen to any transfer offers for every member of his squad. In reality, though, the Portuguese boss is unlikely to come anywhere close to selling the likes of Phil Jones or Ander Herrera at the moment. He is directly hinting that he will listen to offers for the fringe players. He said:
“I am always open to listen to offers for every player. More than listen to offers, I am always ready to listen to the players themselves.
“So any player who knocks on my door and is not happy and wants to move, when the offers are correct, I will never stop a player from leaving, even if it is to a rival.”
Recent rumours suggested that Manchester United youngster Jesse Lingard is being targeted by Arsenal, who are concerned about United’s interest in Mesut Ozil. After having come through the youth ranks at United, Lingard received a number of first-team opportunities early in the campaign. Even though he has not featured much since November, the transfer rumours concerning the 23-year-old are a worry for United especially considering that Arsenal are the club showing interest.
Mourinho has confirmed that he has no problems in selling a player to one of their main rivals. He has shown the same attitude even when at Chelsea. Despite Juan Mata being one of the top players at Chelsea, he was sold to a rival like Manchester United. Mourinho says that if an offer is good, it would not matter if they are a direct opposition on the table. He continued:
“When Juan Mata left Chelsea to come to Manchester United, no problem at all. In my mentality no problem at all. I am always open.
“What I can say is that I am happy with the squad I have.”
The Portuguese manager is feeling relaxed after a long time, as United produced an excellent performance to get a 1-0 win against Tottenham during the weekend. It was a clean sheet and a victory for the club, which had managed only one win in the previous eight league matches. Even during those troubled periods, Mourinho has consistently maintained that the club has been playing well and the results did not reflect on the good performance.
Even against Spurs, there were moments when United were troubled. However, they held on for this much-needed victory, which moved them to within three points of Spurs.
