The winter window is approaching and it is fair to talk about the eye-catching rumours that are surrounded around the red half of Manchester – Manchester United. The Devils have been linked with a number of players and majority of them plies their trade in the Portuguese league.
Now, the reports from the Sun has suggested that Mourinho recently sent his trusted men to keep an eye of Benfica’s 23-year-old defender Nelson Semedo, and the same source has stated that if the scouts give a positive report of the player, Mourinho might make a move for the 23-year-old prodigy next summer.
The 23-year-old was in action for his side this Tuesday in the Champions League encounter against Napoli, and even though he failed to bring a positive result in the fixture, it is suggested that the scouts are impressed with his performance. Semedo has been one of best young talents and we could see Mourinho making a move for the fellow compatriot in the summer.
The 23-year-old plays as a right back and looking at Manchester United’s roster, this move does make sense.
Antonio Valencia has been a complete revelation this term but this is a telling fact that the Ecuadorian veteran is 31 years of age and after a season or two, his impact will stray. Furthermore, Matteo Darmian is always linked with a move to elsewhere and to give a fair assessment of the Italian, he hasn’t been completely overwhelming on the pitch either.
The Portuguese prodigy still has four years left in his current contract and if the reports are to be believed, then he has a £50million release clause as well, but we all are aware of the fact that this amount is surely not big enough to deny United’s interest.
Furthermore, the Sun has also suggested that Benfica will not be looking to hold on to his clause’s amount and are also willing to listen offers from the Old Trafford outfit, hence the Portuguese can be lured easily, as playing for a club like Manchester United is every player’s dream, especially for the youngsters.
Semedo is certainly not a well-known quantity, as he broke into the first team only last year, but his exploits have been worth praising. At 23 years of age, the player will be hoping to have a telling impact in the team and if the history has anything to go by, then the Portuguese will be a sensation, as United had tasted a huge success with the players brought from the Portuguese League; remember Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson?
