Manchester United are expected to go through an extremely busy January transfer window and Star Sports states that the club could be receiving interest in as much as 10 players from various clubs across the world.
Despite after having spent more than £100 million in the last few summers, United are still going through a period of transition that has seen them extremely under likes of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and, currently, Jose Mourinho. The heavy investment in the squad does not seem to be over as of yet, as the club continue to be with a range of players from across the world.
Even though 10 players are expected to attract a lot of interest, the focus of the transfer window will be upon players like Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, and Morgan Schneiderlin.
These players have found very little playing time under Mourinho despite the obvious consensus that they are extremely talented and could possibly help United in this difficult period. The club have managed just one win in the last seven league matches. Even though there is no immediate danger of Jose Mourinho being sacked, his position has certainly deteriorated in the last few weeks.
The visible signs of frustration, fall out with some of the players, and the numerous altercations with the officials have led to whispers that the Portuguese tactician is finding it hard to cope with the stress of being the United manager.
Along with the three players, the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo, Anthony Martial, and Daley Blind are also expected to receive significant interest. This coupled with the interest surrounding young players should mean that United be receiving offers for as many as 10 players. Aside from listening to the offers, the club also has to concentrate on acquiring new players for the squad.
Everton have already admitted interest in Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay, while Matteo Darmian is reportedly set for a return back to Italy. Several Italian clubs are also showing interest in Depay, as he struggles to even get a look in under Mourinho.
United have been heavily linked with a move for Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann, although it is highly unlikely that any move involving the Frenchman will take place in the summer.
It remains to be seen if United will sell some of the high profile players like Marouane Fellaini, as it would leave the squad significantly smaller than ever before. Even though Mourinho has been quite critical of his players, he has shown this weekend – after the inclusion of Schweinsteiger into the matchday squad – that he is prepared to give chances to players who train well.
