Manchester United Ready To Double The Wages to Keep This 23-Year-Old Happy at Old Trafford

Jesse Lingard

Manchester United may have experienced a rough time during the tenure of the Dutch mastermind Louis van Gaal, but the former Bayern Munich manager did give United many things to cheer about. For the starters, he brought United right back into the Champions League and to add further to it; many youngsters were promoted during his regime.

Players like Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Guillermo Varela and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson made it to the first team, but two players clearly impressed the most; namely, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard. The former made his debut for the team in the Champions League tie and impressed the spectators with a brace, while the latter was quite a late bloomer and right at this very moment, both are one of the most important figures for the side.

Marcus Rashford, who recently turned 19, signed a new contract back in May and now the Daily Mail is reporting that Lingard is on the verge to sign a new contract with the club and the sporting brand Adidas. Lingard, who is currently earning £30,000-per-week at the club, will see his wages set to £60,000-per-week once he signs the contract.

The 23-year-old is in his final 18 months of his existing contract and the sources have claimed that the club are ready to tie him for a long term. Furthermore, similar plans are in progress with Adidas, i.e., renegotiating his existing package with the brand.

Jesse Lingard was unarguably one of the brightest prospects in Louis van Gaal’s tenure and his contribution in the FA cup final against Crystal Palace last year – where he scored the winning goal – has surely lifted his market value and to add more to it; his recent inclusion in England’s senior squad has increased his reputation globally.

Lingard, who made 40 appearances for the club last season, has been a regular squad member for Jose Mourinho and has made five appearances in the Premier League so far. With players like Memphis Depay and Henrikh Mkhitaryan missing the games for their respective reasons, it is fair to say that Lingard will be given his fair share.

He was also included in the starting XI that faced Burnley last time out and saw his header saved by the former United man Tom Heaton. Well, it is yet to be seen what the fate holds for this 23-year-old after Mkhitaryan marks his returns, as it is quite clear that Marcus Rashford is delivering more goods than Lingard and as soon as the Armenian returns, one of the two youngsters will have to face the bench and looking at the current scenario, Lingard seems to be the one.

Lingard is yet to score a goal in the Premier League, but he does have an assist to his name and if he really tends to cement his spot in the line-up, he must deliver as fast as he can.
