Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian will reportedly head back to Italy this January, as Inter Milan are interested in offering him an escape route from his misery.
Darmian did make a Europa League appearance for the Devils this season, but apart from that, he hasn’t played any major role for the manager. He was left out in the game against Zorya as Timothy Fosu-Mensah was handed his chance and was also left out against Stoke City.
Earlier this summer, there were claims that Juventus were an interested party, but the Turin-based club ended up signing Danu Alves instead. Now according to the reports from the Daily Mail, Inter Milan have shown their interest in signing the player and the report further states that the deal would initially be a loan deal, but the Italians would have an option to make it a permanent one at the end of the season.
Still considered as one of the finest Italian quality, Darmian still has three more years on his United contract. He signed for the Devils last summer for a reported fee of £12.7m. He started his career brightly as he was named as the player of the month for United, but a series of injuries and inconsistent performances saw him falling down.
The 26-year-old was one of the brightest performers in the Euro 2016, but that surely wasn’t enough to impress the Portuguese tactician. Right at this very moment, Antonio Valencia has cemented his spot in the starting XI, and looking at some recent line-ups, it is safe to say that even Timothy Fosu-Mensah is ahead of the Italian.
Darmian deserves first team football and Inter can solely offer him that. Daily Mail has further claimed that the personal terms have been agreed and the negotiation is on the final stage. Well, he undoubtedly is one of the best in the business, but he is just another example of the fact that Premier League is not meant for everyone.
