Manchester United cruised to victory against their Ukrainian opponents last night and the manager – Jose Mourinho – has admitted that he was not convinced with the team’s coach Giovanni Cerra, as his instructions left Paul Pogba confused.
The manager burst towards Cerra, who previously worked as a visual analyst at Stamford Bridge, for getting the opposition line-up wrong. The manager also appeared furious while addressing assistant Rui Faria on the touchline and he told BT Sports that Zorya Luhansk had made changes to their lineup that had left United midfielder Pogba unsure over his role.
“It was, you know, set pieces, organisation,” he said. “They changed their team before the game and Paul was a bit confused with the changes and obviously I want my assistants to take care of all the details.”
Mourinho was happier with Wayne Rooney and he set up Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the winner with a scuffed shot within two minutes of coming on for lacklustre United.
“He was laughing that he could say he made a good assist!” he said.
“But really, he gave us at that time what we needed, which was a second presence in the box.
“He’s more of a striker than Juan Mata, who went to the right side.
“It was hard work. We deserved to win and we tried to win, but it was difficult. They were very well organised defensively, which we expected.”
Former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves, now working as a pundit for BT, said: “That shows his attention to detail. He is a perfectionist.”
The win means United are now third in Group A, a point behind the leaders Fenerbahce.
