Manchester United were linked with Antoine Griezmann a couple of days ago as a long term replacement for Wayne Rooney.
While many believed that an attractive hike in the player’s salary and an offer of transfer fee high enough for the Atletico Madrid to not be able to refuse the same, would make the deal possible, however in this case money does not seem to be the be-all and end-all.
According to reports from the Mirror, Griezmann has no intentions of leaving Atletico and is set to stay at the club until the day Diego Simeone is replaced as a manager.
“The only doubt would be if Simeone leaves for PSG or wherever” Griezmann told French TV programme Telefoot.
“I called him before extending my contract and he confirmed to me that he was staying,
“I can learn a lot from him. PSG are not my goal at the moment. I’m happy in Spain. I’m always proud to be popular with the fans. I try to smile and do my best. If they like it, it’s even better.”
While Manchester United are set to offer a world record fee for the player’s move out of the club United manager Jose Mourinho will now have to wait till situation changes at Atletico, so as to be able to sign the Frenchman in the squad.
