Wayne Rooney. Some fear him, some depend on him, others look up to him. As a Manchester United fan, Rooney has been a constant hero in all of our games ever since he joined United in 2004. From a young 18 year old, Rooney has had his share of ups and downs with United and has turned into one of the best captains we could ask for.
Managers that have worked with him in the past only have positive things to say about Rooney and how he adds value to the team. It was in 2004 Sir Alex was considering retirement when he decided against it and signed Rooney. He wanted to bring back energy to the team – Rooney and Ronaldo did exactly that! Ever since he joined Manchester United, Rooney has been an integral part of the team – first as an energetic youngster that did more than just play in the position he was placed in, to now an enthusiastic captain who manages to bring the team together no matter what.
What makes Rooney stand apart from everyone else is the way he puts himself literally all over the place during a game, scoring and defending for his team till the final whistle.
Like every player, even Rooney will grow old and have to hang up his boots some day. He has announced his desire to retire from International Football after the World Cup in 2018. If there is a chance for Rooney to have the last resurgence in his career, he’s on the path to it right now. Provided he keeps playing with the same enthusiasm he’s had since the start of the season, this might just turn out to be a great season for both Rooney and Manchester United.
