The Premier League is underway and what an opening weekend we’ve had. It has been a good start with all the top clubs except Arsenal making bold opening statements and already staking a claim for the Premier League trophy. Leicester City have made a horrible start to their title defence losing their first match to a lowly Hull City whose survival in the league is very much in question. Both the Manchester clubs have had a good start with Liverpool and Arsenal being a cracker of a game. All the new arrivals have made an impressive start with N’golo Kante of Chelsea and Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the top of the lot.
But the biggest debut of Paul Pogba got hindered due to his suspension sustained in the Italian League. He is though all set to make his debut in front of the home crowd this weekend.
The question that arises is who is going to partner Paul Pogba in midfield. The strongest candidate out of all the midfield options is Ander Herrera. Playing a much defensive role, this pair can become one of the best central defensive midfield partners in the new season.
Pogba, one of the best in the business and can wreck havoc in the midfield. With a wide range of passes and beautiful ball control, he is all set to be the best signing of the season. The creativity that was missing from United midfield with the void left by Paul Scholes might finally be filled with another Paul.
He plays the game with a swagger and finesse and being comfortable on the ball is an asset that this guy brings to the midfield. His blistering pace is also something that his opponents have to worry about when playing United. He does not shy away from a fight and uses his upper body strength to the fullest.
Partnering him in midfield will be Ander Herrera who can provide the balance to the midfield. His work rate is phenomenal. Though he will play the second fiddle to Pogba, he sure can shield the defence slotting right in front of the 2 centre backs. He is pacy as well as his closing in is very good. Using his nimble footwork he can work his way through some tight situations. He is also a threat going forward so his pace will be put to a test when United counterattacks.
With Mourinho settling in, he sure will tinker with the partnership. Pogba though seems like the constant one there might be a five-way race for the other spot with Carrick, Fellaini, Schneiderlin, Herrera and Blind in contention. So Mourinho has a lot to choose from and he might just get the combination right with Herrera and Pogba in midfield.
