So the new manager of Manchester United has done what he told the media. He clearly stated that he has come here to win and the outpowering Edie Howie’s men at the Dean Court with a thumping scoreline of 3 goals to 1 was just a glimpse of it. Ironically, Juan Mata opened the scoring of Mourinho’s era, followed by the goals from the skipper Wayne Rooney and the debutant Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The transfer activities (incomings) are far from over for the Reds as they have completed their fourth and final signing of the season, Paul Pogba, and now, it is the time to assess the current squad.
Very recently, the club confirmed the departure of two youngsters, namely, Paddy McNair and Donald Love. Both the players have joined Manchester United’s former David Moyes at Sunderland and now, even Adnan Januzaj has completed his loan move to the Stadium of Light.
Previously, The reports from BBC have suggested that the player wanted a permanent move from the Old Trafford, while the club clearly indicated a preference for him to leave on loan. United manager Jose Mourinho stated:
“Adnan fits into my plans, that is why he’s on loan at a Premier League club,” Jose Mourinho told a press conference on Friday.
“If he didn’t fit into my plans, then we don’t care about him, we don’t care about where he’s going, which club, which competition, which manager. We care about him because we think he’s a talented player.”
It is understood that the player was a priority for David Moyes, and also, for the spectators of the Stadium of Light. The 21-year-old will not just get a proper first team football, but can also become an integral part for the Black Cats. In his first start for the Devils, back in 2013, the young Belgian saved the side by scoring a brace against Sunderland, and soon after that, he cemented his place in the team. But following the sacking of Moyes and arrival of van Gaal, he found himself falling down in the pecking order as the players like Di Maria, Herrera and Blind were bought.
So right at this very moment, the situation is clear, but is this loan move a beneficial one for the Belgian?
Well, we all are aware of the fact that Januzaj is a great prospect in the sport. He has got the pace and the technique that could easily haunt the opposition, but he rarely contributes while the team is on the back foot and this is what Mourinho would never want from his players. We saw in the Community Shield game that even Zlatan was made to drop back at times and the 34-year-old played his part with a great ease.
Losing him would definitely cost United at some point as he surely is a star in the making. But besides his activities on the pitch, the lad needs to work more on his attitude. Soon after his loan spell was cut short with Dortmund, their manager, Thomas Tuchel, criticized him for his behavior. Yes, he needs a game time to improve his skills and all, and for that, a loan spell would definitely solve his case.
As stated earlier, losing him might cost the team at some point and who knows, Januzaj could become the next Pogba case for Manchester United? He surely needs to work on his ethics, and right at this very moment, the Reds Devils were unable to help his case as they already have a star-studded squad, and many of them are actually capable of surpassing the Belgian for the top spot, hence, a move to Sunderland is the best thing that has happened for the young Belgian prospect.
