It is really starting to feel like Paul Pogba to Manchester United is nothing more than a myth. The Devils, who made an 85 million offer for the Frenchman are desperate to complete the deal, while Juventus are not willing to sell him in anything less than 100 million. Now, the recent reports stated that the Devils have agreed to pay the hefty amount for the midfielder, but the deal has been stuck due to the payment of Pogba’ agent. It was reported that 30% of the final fee would be given to Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola.
The 23-year-old is surely a great prospect in the sport and will definitely improve the midfield of the team, but unfortunately, I agree with what United’s legend Paul Scholes said about the Frenchman. A couple of days back, the former midfielder said:
“He was a very talented young player, I played with him and I knew how good he was,” he said.
“I just don’t think he is worth £86 million. For that sort of money, you want someone who is going to score 50 goals a season like Ronaldo or Messi. Pogba is nowhere near there yet.”
Now, on the other hand, a few weeks back, it was reported that Manchester United have sorted out the alternative for Pogba if the deal fails to materialize. According to the reports, Jose Mourinho was monitoring the situation of PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi and very recently, the 29-year-old has been told by PSG that he could leave the club this summer.
“He is a very good player,” PSG manager Emery told L’Equipe.
“We have a lot of left-footed defensive midfielders. If he has the opportunity to leave and if he thinks there are too many midfielders here… But I do not want him to go.”
Now, the question here is; who will be the perfect option for the team? So here, we will try to figure it out that who amongst both had a better 2015-16 season.
For the starters, the 23-year-old Paul Pogba played 35 games for Juventus last season, while the 29-year-old Matuidi played 31. In their number of appearances, Pogba scored eight goals, while Matuidi found the net four times. We all are aware of the fact that what Manchester United need is a goal scorer rather than a playmaker, because they already have many players to do the job, hence, if talking about the goal scoring record, Pogba is a clear winner.
Talking about the playmaking abilities, then the 23-year-old midfielder created 54 chances last season in which, 12 were converted into goals, while Matuidi created 26 chances where 6 were finished into the back of the net, but here, i do feel that the difference is due to their positions. Pogba played a more advanced role for Juventus and was given the permit to join the attack regularly, while Matuidi’s job was to guard the backline whenever the team launched and attack.
Last season, Pogba was named as the man of the match four times, and sadly, Matuidi has no such records to his name. When talking about the maturity, then Matuidi is far better than Pogba as he had the shooting accuracy of 60% and a passing accuracy of 92%. On the other hand, Pogba had the shooting accuracy of 37% and completed the season with a passing accuracy of 83%.
Pogba is known for his tall and physical built, hence when it was about defending, he easily emerged victorious against Matuidi. Pogba won 51% of his average duels last season, including tackles, individual take ons etc, while Matuidi was only able to average 43%.
Matuidi had a great record his passing last season, but Pogba really out numbered his countrymen in other attributes.
Verdict: Pogba, the clear winner but Matuidi is still a decent option for the Red Devils if the negotiations with Juventus fail.
