Do Manchester United Need To Spend £22m On This Ligue 1 Defender?

The Mourinho era at the Theatre of dreams has begun and it started with a win as Manchester United’s teenagers helped the side to defeat the fellow English side Wigan Athletic, and now, they will be travelling to Asia to play their rest of the pre-season friendlies. The first hurdle will be Henrikh’s Mkhitaryan’s previous club Borussia Dortmund and then there will be the Manchester Derby (friendly).

We are pretty sure that every single fan of the Devils is waiting eagerly to see their team perform in the Premier League because this is where it gets serious. The 2016-17 season in the League is going to be a blast as every single club is trying to sign some big names.

With three signings already done, Jose Mourinho is now working to bring that one final name into the squad. Media has been doing its job by linking almost every player in Europe, but many believe that it would be Paul Pogba because right at this very moment, what Devils really need is a Central midfielder.

Now, according to the reports from the SUN, Jose Mourinho wants to land AS Monaco’s right-back Fabinho and the reported fee for the deal is around £22m, and the most interesting aspect in the speculation is that the player and Mourinho, both share the same agent, and this has added more fuel to the fire.

But do Manchester United need Fabinho?

Well, the answer would be yes! Now, many would argue over this and yes it is true that the Devils already have Matteo Darmian, who is a worthy candidate for the position, but looking at his record last season, the Italian failed to adopt the topsy-turvy nature of the Premier League.

The player, who never saw the sidelines since 2011 (in Italy) had to face a major setback last season due to his fitness. And besides Darmian, the squad do not have a proper right back. Yes, they do have Valencia, but the Ecuadorian is very poor in the final third and hence, to complete the set, Fabinho would be the best option.

With Bailly, Smalling, and Jones guarding De Gea, Shaw and Fabinho could launch themselves forward with freedom. The 22-year-old Brazilian is known for his muscular presence on the pitch, and besides that, he loves to spend most of his time in the opponent’s area and that’s what makes him an attacking threat. His style of tackling is what he is praised for and his aerial abilities and that is what makes him a nightmare for the opponent.

The 22-year-old is a goal scoring full-back and his records speaks for him. He scored 6 goals last season and further assisted 4 goals in Ligue 1. At just 22 years of age, Fabinho is a matured footballer, who reads the game well and this allows him to cut the comedy for the opposition attackers.

There is no doubt that Fabinho needs to work on some of his traits, but joining a club like Manchester United will only make him better. He is sometimes criticized for his inability to chase the pacy wingers, but then again, Jose can work on it with ease. If a defender of Fabinho’s caliber is available on £22m, then Manchester United should not miss the trick at all.
